Hello Giving Tuesday participants! We are so excited to have you as part of the Community Foundation’s 3rd Giving Tuesday event, to be held on November 28, 2017. Please read on to make sure you are in the loop, and then save this email for future reference. There’s a lot here.

 

Let’s Make This Count!
We strongly encourage you to put significant and dedicated effort into publicizing Giving Tuesday, and do as much as you can through social media, word of mouth, a mailing to your supporters, etc. Tell your friends and family too! Promote, promote, promote so we can make this 24-hour giving period a HUGE success for your organization, and for our community!

 

Publicity and Promotion
1. Posters and Post Cards: If you requested these printed items, they are available for pick up now in our office at 100 N. Ripley, Suite F in Alpena. For expenses reasons, if you are able to pick these items up, we would certainly appreciate it! If you absolutely cannot get to Alpena to get the items, please let me know.

 

2. Social Media Image: A separate e-mail will be sent to each registrant with our 2017 Giving Tuesday image, which you will be able to use on Facebook and other social media. This image is already sized to work well on Facebook, and will be customized for your organization. That same email will also include your digital file of the Giving Tuesday poster and/or post cards, if you requested them on your original registration form.

 

3. Hashtag: When promoting your organization on social media, please use the hashtag #GivingTuesdayNEMI. On Facebook, consider tagging the Community Foundation for Northeast Michigan in your posts. This will increase the number of people who see your posts and drive people to the Community Foundation’s Giving Tuesday page where they can make a gift to support your organization. Let’s flood social media with #GivingTuesdayNEMI!

 

4. Connecting on Facebook: If you have not already “liked” the Community Foundation for Northeast Michigan’s Facebook page, please be sure to do so! When you see a post about Giving Tuesday, share that post along with a message about your organization’s participation.

 

5. Promote on your website: If your organization has a website, consider putting an image and/or link to www.cfnem.org/givingtuesday. That way, if people mistakenly visit your website to make their Giving Tuesday gift, they can see right away a link to our website to make their gift. (If you use an image, I recommend using the one that will be sent separately and is customized for your organization.)

 

6. Giving Tuesday Gifts: In order for a gift to be recognized officially as part of the Giving Tuesday NE Michigan event, please direct your supporters to www.cfnem.org/givingtuesday to make their gift. More information on this will provided as we get closer to the big day, as the page will not actively accept gifts until 12 a.m. on November 28.

 

7. Giving Tuesday Toolkit: For other resources, you can check out the Giving Tuesday TOOLKIT for 2017 from www.givingtuesday.com.

 

Final Marketing Report
Attached is a spreadsheet template for you to track your marketing activities. Please record as much as you can, as we will be requesting this report post-Giving Tuesday. (In 2018, registration will be on an application-based process, and for previous participants, evaluation of this marketing report will be considered.)

 

Some Organizational Tips
· Consider keeping a special file folder for all of your Giving Tuesday information, and have it easily accessible.
· Create a separate e-mail folder for all of your Giving Tuesday emails. I will be emailing you throughout the next month, and you’ll want to be sure you don’t miss any important information.

 

The Day of the Big Event
The Giving Tuesday portion of our website goes live at 12 a.m. on November 28. Throughout the day we will announce giveaways. Also on that page will be a running total of the amount in gifts received throughout the day. Fun!

This just popped into my inbox concerning the upcoming "Giving Tuesday" event.  I am trying to get the Besser Foundation grant application completed and submitted by the deadline tomorrow, so Jim, could you paste the link and whatever else can be posted to our website?  Jessica, can you get the info posted on our Facebook page?  After Wednesday I can pull my head away from the computer, and help out with this.  Thank you both!
